A picture with trees and greenery overlooking a lake which forms part of the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens Accessible Walk

Can I do this walk? This walk is easy for everyone. You can do it by foot, in a wheelchair, or with any other mobility aid.

What will I see? You will see nice gardens with a lake, waterbirds, big trees, and flower beds.

How easy is the path to use? This loop path goes around the edge of the gardens. The paths are hard gravel, smooth, wide, and flat. There are no steps. The paths are mostly at the same level as the lawns. The gardens are well-kept, with no overhead blocks. You can turn a wheelchair around and travel side-by-side.

There are easy-to-read signs along the paths.

The 3 car parks offer shorter walks with different pick-up and drop-off points. Mobile phone service is good.

Rest areas There are shelters and many shade trees. There is an easy-to-use picnic and BBQ shelter and a playground with some easy paths, but the equipment is not easy to use.

Seats with and without armrests are along the path.

There are drinking fountains you can use.

Toilets There are 2 easy-to-use toilets, near the main gates and on Downes Road.

Dogs Dogs must be on a leash.

Public Transport Bus No. 2 stops on Walker Street near the main gate. There is no shelter, seats, or passenger information. The footpath is narrow and uneven. There is a ramp through the kerb at both ends of the Walker Street car park. There is no crossing for walkers.

Parking There is room to pick up, drop off, and park at all 3 car parks. The Downes Road spaces are wide and off the road. There is room for loading and unloading. This car park has a ramp right to the walking path. The surface is smooth, firm, and slightly sloping. There are no road crossings.

The photos and descriptions give more information about how easy the walk is to use. Things might change. If you see any differences, please let us know.
