
Can I do this walk? This popular walk is easy for everyone. You can do it by foot, in a wheelchair, or with any other mobility aid. There are piers where people using mobility aids can get over the water.
What will I see? You will see Corio Bay, sandy beaches, seabirds, boats, and ships. The shoreline has art, playgrounds, piers, a Ferris wheel, cafes, swimming pools, and sea baths. Easy-to-use beach mats lead onto the sand.
How easy is the path to use? The path is smooth, wide, and mostly flat. The walk has no steps. There is a short slope by Cunningham Pier. You can travel side-by-side and turn a wheelchair easily.
The walk is easy to follow along the shoreline.
For shorter walks, you can start or finish anywhere. You can arrange pick-ups and drop-offs at other spots along the walk. Mobile service is good.
Path crossings are either smooth or ramped. There is a traffic light crossing with no kerb.
Some parts of the path drop off to the sand or water.
Cyclists might share some paths.
Rest areas You can find all kinds of seats on this walk. Many have armrests. There are picnic tables, BBQs, and cafes. There are many shelters. The path has many tall trees, but they don’t give much shade. Be SunSmart.
There are easy-to-use drinking fountains along the walk.
This walk is very popular and can be busy.
Toilets There are easy-to-use toilets at each end of the walk.
Dogs must be on a leash.
Public Transport There is no public transport along the beaches. Bus No. 20 runs on Mercer Street and Bus No. 1 on Brougham Street.
Parking There are two easy-to-use spaces with safe side spaces and ramped access right to the walking path at the western end of Western Beach car park. There are more all along the walk. You can start anywhere. The surfaces are firm, wide, and flat. Not all easy-to-use spaces have safe side spaces.
